A long-running debate within the Outdoor Writers' Guild was resolved this month, when members voted to change the organisation's name. "The Guild has always welcomed writers, photographers and other professionals working in the outdoors," explains David Foster, who has been a member of the organisation since 1996. "But, for some years, recruitment has been held back because our name implied that the Guild was purely for writers." At the AGM, held during the Guild's annual awards weekend, there was overwhelming support for changing the name to the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild. The Guild's website already reflects this new identity. In other business Kate Ashbrook, the well-known footpath campaigner and Secretary of the Open Spaces Society, was was presented with the Guild's Golden Eagle Award for services to the outdoors. She was also elected as an honorary Guild member. |
