"There's no doubt that the Isle of Wight is my favourite walking destination," says David, "so the opportunity to cross the Solent and complete the fieldwork for this revised edition was pure pleasure." Over 500 miles of carefully maintained footpaths offer plenty of scope to explore, and David made the most of the Island's dramatic clifftop scenery, wide-open river estuaries and rolling chalk downland. Other attractions include the steam railway at Havenstreet, Bembridge windmill and the remarkable 14th-century lighthouse near Chale. “Our redesigned short walks series is now bigger and better than ever,” says Crimson’s series editor Kevin Freeborn. “The books have been completely redesigned and now have more pages, an easier-to-use layout, lovely pictures, GPS waypoints and large-scale Ordnance Survey maps.” David’s Isle of Wight guide is amongst the first batch of titles to receive the new look. “I'm thrilled with the new guide,” says David. “The layout is clearer and sharper, and makes much better use of eye-catching colour photography.” The series is ideal for families, and for people with limited leisure time. Each guide includes twenty circular walks graded by distance and difficulty. The walk descriptions highlight points of interest, and include an observation question designed to keep children entertained.
